Scottish Borders? East Lothian? West Lothian?
If you’re not from Scotland, when you first think of the country do you think of the highlands? A highland coo perhaps? Maybe the faraway Hebridean islands? Or even just the capital? I don’t know whether it’s the norm, but before many people we speak to delve into the crevices, they always looked at Scotland from Edinburgh up. I can hear the outcry of screams writing this, do not worry that’s all changed now!
There’s something wonderful about that though, because the borders that lovely belt of Scottish wonder that separates Northumberland from Edinburgh is full of ‘the road less travelled’. Filled with winding roads, scenic towns and tranquillity. Even the southern upland way, a 214 mile stretch of path that is coast to coast, you’re stretched to see many others along it even in the heights of summer. This area of Scotland is a forgotten gem.
Yes, it doesn’t have the majestic white sands and aqua seas of the islands, or the multiple lochs of the Trossachs, but has a gentle quiet beauty all of its own. It makes a perfect playground for swimming and many opportunities to delve into its watery secrets.
With that perspective in mind, Lynda has started tailoring small group trips to suit the adventurers and show off all the borders has to offer. The opportunities are quite frankly endless with these trips, whether you’re looking to slot in a half day adventure during a planned holiday or come up especially for a full day, Lynda can create something bespoke just for your group.
Maybe you’ll want to explore along the Eastern Coastline, journeying through places like North Berwick or St Abbs taking in the local wildlife amongst the waves.
Maybe you prefer rivers that wind across the Borders, through the Lothians or Northumberland as they make their way to the sea. There may even be a whisper of waterfalls to find….
Or maybe you’re looking for those spots only the locals know about, the lochs that hide themselves away for true adventurers to explore.
It’s not all swimming either, these days consists of exploring the local history and taking in the qualities of the landscape that surround you during your time with Lynda. Whether it’s the coastal beaches, the rounded hills or meandering river banks, there’s something for everyone in the borders.
Here’s some snapshots of recent adventures around the Borders:
- One swimmer had never swum in a river plunge pool – Lynda made that happen.
- One swimmer who felt nervous about the day being on her own, soon made new friends but loved the challenge, feeling safe and taking home the feeling of euphoria ( and new friendships).
- One group disrupted a couple in the wilds of the hill whilst proposing, there was a cheer from them, and a yes from her.
- One group stopped at a delightful loch side café for a hot chocolate and a blether with a couple of bikers; who naturally thought they were all mad.
- One group swam alongside moor hens taking in their natters.
- One group swooshed down the river and under a bridge. This one is always great to spot a few walkers alongside and wave as you disappear underneath the shadow of the structure.
So, I wonder what your bespoke day of Scottish Border Adventure end up looking like?
