Our mission is all about empowering people to do things they wouldn’t ordinarily do, such as try dipping in the natural water for the first time, go solo on an adventure, step out of the comfort zone, go exploring and learn new things about yourself and the world around you.
At Take to the Water not only do we use our natural world of water for wellbeing and adventures, but we also combine our 20 odd years as a manager and director in the corporate world to coach New Managers to hone their leadership skills, using the natural world to help them on their personal journey.
Leadership is a lot like stepping into the unknown—much like dipping into natural water for the first time. It’s exhilarating, intimidating, and, ultimately, transformative. For new managers, the journey into leadership begins with understanding its fundamental building blocks: confidence, adaptability, resilience, and clarity. And what better way to grasp these elements than through pushing yourself to do something out with your comfort zone?
A stretch challenge pushes you out of your comfort zone, demanding that you explore new perspectives and overcome fears. For our leadership session, we’ve chosen an activity that embodies these very principles—immersing yourself in natural water.
Why natural water? It’s unpredictable, ever-changing, and, at first glance, daunting. Standing on the edge of a loch, river, or sea, you’re met with self-doubt. “Will it be too cold?” “Can I handle this?” But taking that step, plunging into the unknown, reveals truths about yourself.
Here’s what our natural water stretch challenge teaches:
1. Courage Over Comfort: Leadership often requires choosing the hard, uncomfortable path because it’s the right one. That first moment of cold-water contact? It’s your courage coming alive.
2. Adaptability Is Key: The water may be calm, or it may be choppy. Learning to adjust, to flow with the environment rather than fight it, is a hallmark of great leadership.
3. Clarity in Challenge: The shock of the cold clears your mind, demanding focus. In leadership, challenges sharpen your ability to prioritize and think clearly under pressure.
4. Resilience in Action: You’ll feel the initial discomfort, but as you stay with it, you discover your strength—your ability to endure and thrive.
5. Water Wellness: It increases the happy hormone levels to help feel fabulous. Our aim is for it to become part of your wellbeing kit.
Stretch challenges like this are designed to mimic the unpredictability of real-world leadership. They help you build self-awareness and unlock potential you didn’t know you had.
Leadership is not just a role; it’s a series of small, courageous steps into the unknown. By stepping into natural water, new managers begin their leadership journey with a clear understanding of what it takes to lead—not just from the head, but from the heart.
Are you ready to dive in and discover the leader within you or your team?
