Event details

Start the year with a brave little challenge and maybe something completely ridiculous on your head!

Whether you’re new to cold water dipping and curious about a gentle first go, or you’re a seasoned wild swimmer who fancies starting the year with a splash, our New Year’s Day Loony Dook could be just the thing for you.

Join Take to the Water on 1st January at Alemore Loch for a wonderfully fun, slightly bonkers opportunity to welcome the new year with a dip, a little courage and a whole lot of smiles.

Perhaps you’re looking to clear your head after the busy festive season.

Maybe you’ve promised yourself that this will be the year you try something new. You want to explore your courageous self.

Or perhaps you’re already a regular wild swimmer and fancy starting the year with a wee challenge.

Whatever brings you along, we’d love you to join us!

And the best bit?

We’re doing it for a very special reason. 💙

🎉 A new year. A new adventure. A little bit of madness!

There’s something lovely about the first day of a new year.

A fresh start.

A chance to try something different.

Perhaps even an opportunity to surprise yourself.

And what better way to begin than getting together with a group of like-minded people, sharing a few laughs and enjoying a refreshing dip in the great outdoors?

For some, it might be their very first experience of cold water.

For others, it might be a chance to celebrate another year of wonderful wild swimming adventures.

And for everyone, it’s an opportunity to leave the business of everyday life behind for a little while and simply enjoy being in the moment.

It’s not about swimming distances, staying in the longest or proving how brave you are.

It’s about having a go, enjoying the experience and starting the year with a great big smile.

🎩 Fancy dress? Oh, absolutely!

Now, we couldn’t possibly have a Loony Dook without a little silliness!

So dig out those Christmas outfits, find your brightest colours or let your imagination run wild.

🎅 Santa hats?

🦌 Reindeer antlers?

🌸 A giant flower?

🦸 Your favourite superhero?

🌈 Something wonderfully bright and completely unidentifiable?

We don’t mind!

Whether you’re wearing something festive, colourful, creative or simply something that makes you smile, we’d love to see it.

Just make sure whatever you choose is suitable and safe for getting into the water, without restricting your movement or being unsafe.

💙 A little dip making a bigger difference

This year, our Loony Dook has an extra special purpose.

We’re raising funds to support Take to the Water’s Water Safety sessions for young people.

https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/take-to-the-water-water-safety-awareness?utm_term=vRZgw3B6k&utm_medium=FA&utm_source=CL

Water can bring us so much joy, but learning how to understand and respect it is incredibly important.

Through our water safety activities, we want to help more young people develop the knowledge, awareness and confidence to make safer choices around water.

And what better way to support that work than bringing people together for a joyful New Year’s Day dip?

Screenshot

Our Loony Dook is completely FREE to attend!

There is no charge for taking part, but if you’d like to make a sponsorship towards our young people’s Water Safety sessions, we’d be enormously grateful.

Every contribution, however small, will help us work towards giving more young people access to valuable water safety education.

A little splash for you. A potentially life-changing lesson for someone else. 💙

🌊 Who is this adventure for?

Whether you’re a curious first-time dipper or a seasoned wild swimmer, we’d love to welcome you!

You don’t need to be the fastest swimmer.

You don’t need to swim the furthest.

And you certainly don’t need to stay in the water the longest.

Perhaps you’d simply like to dip your toes in and discover what all the excitement is about.

Or maybe you’re a regular swimmer who wants to mark the start of another year with a memorable dip.

Whatever your experience, the important thing is enjoying the water in a way that’s right for you.

There’ll be no pressure to stay in longer than feels comfortable, and no expectation to swim any particular distance.

It’s your New Year’s Day adventure, and the aim is to come out smiling!
