Weather outlook
Lothians and Borders, Scotland, United Kingdom
Event details
In celebration of combining a walk and a dook as part of the Gala Wheeling Festival in the beautiful Scottish Borders.
4.00pm start
We will start our walk from the car park at Tweedbank Train station and walk the circular route anticlockwise along the river past Lowood House, stop for a a short dook under the rail bridge to explore the waters of the Tweed, and have a warm drink before completing our return walk back to the car.at the Railway station,
Anyone new to swimming and wishing to give a dook a try are most welcome.
There are another group of walkers as part of the festival who will be finishing their walk at Tempest Brewery.
If you fancy joining them (and me) after our dip you would be most welcome to join in. When completing your joining form please intimate that you would like to join us in the Tempest Brewery so we can let the Brewery know our numbers.
Route length – approximately 5 km.
Walking route is on a well established but uneven path
A suggest list of kit for the dookers is as follows:
♦ Swimming costume (or top and lycra leggings)
♦ goggles
♦ towel (large)
♦ water shoes (or old trainers) – this is in addition to your walking shoes
♦ warm drink
♦ jacket
If a seasoned swimmer please bring:
♦ tow float
With us being in the open we will be getting changed in public. I suggest wearing your costume to the swim and bring a large towel which you can change under.
There is no charge for this activity but if you wish to support sessions with young people and their guardians on water safety we would welcome a donation.
As safety is a priority – if the weather dictates – we have the option to change or cancel the event.
