Dook & Donder around Lowood Circular Route as part of Walking & Wheels Festival – Scottish Borders

Dook & Donder around Lowood Circular Route as part of Walking & Wheels Festival – Scottish Borders
Weather outlook
Lothians and Borders, Scotland, United Kingdom
Event details
In celebration of combining a walk and a dook as part of the Walking & Wheeling Festival – Scottish Borders.
10.00am start
Come join our friendly team and explore the land and water around the Borders.
We will start our walk from the car park at Lowood and walk the circular route along the river past Melrose, across the swinging bridge past Gattonside and back to Lowood.
Here we will stop for a short dook to explore the waters of the Tweed, have a drink and bite to eat before warming up by completing our return walk back to the car.
Anyone wishing to give a dook a try are most welcome.
Route length – approximately 5 km.
Walking route is on a well established but uneven path
A suggest list of kit for the dookers is as follows:
♦ Swimming costume (or top and lycra leggings)
♦ goggles
♦ towel (large)
♦ water shoes (or old trainers) – this is in addition to your walking shoes
♦ warm drink
♦ jacket
If a seasoned swimmer please bring:
♦ tow float
With us being in the open we will be getting changed in public. I suggest wearing your costume to the swim and bring a large towel which you can change under.
Meeting point and further details will be provided prior to the event.
There is no charge for this activity but if you wish to support sessions with young people and their guardians on water safety we would welcome a donation to our just giving page which we have set up
https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/take-to-the-water?utm_medium=FA&utm_source=CL
As safety is a priority – if the weather dictates – we have the option to change or cancel the event.
